Three years ago, the University of Arizona decided to find a home for a new
FIRST Robotics team. They shopped around Tucson calling on TUSD #1,
Flowing Wells and Amphitheater School Districts looking for a home. None of the
large school districts were interested. They sited budget constraints, safety
issues and insurance liability as reasons to pass on the team. Luckily, they
decided to look into charter schools and found the vision they needed at
Sonoran Science Academy.

In the past three years, SSA has continued to support team CRUSH embracing
the FIRST message as their own. Each year the funding has increased as has
their commitment to the program. We are still the only robotics team in Tucson,
but we also want to be the best as well.

Beginning in 2005, SSA has agreed to fully fund our team. Although we are
actively looking for grants and sponsors, we know that our program is safe and
will continue. SSA has begun to build their academic program around our team.
They will be offering a robotics program K-12. They will be offering robotic
classes for credit for high school students next year. They are currently looking
for an outstanding engineering curriculum as well.

Sonoran Science Academy has embraced our team and mentors. They
understand the importance of positive adult interaction with students and
continue to nurture CRUSH vision for future growth. We can not stress enough
how much of a pleasure it has been working with SSA these past 3 years. We
look forward to many more!
