Thanks for your interest in joining CRUSH 1011, a competitive FIRST Robotics high school team
hosted and sponsored by Sonoran Science Academy. As CRUSH 1011 is the only team currently
serving the Tucson area, there are only a few open positions for the 2005 – 2006 team. Because
space is limited and interest is high, we have created a selection process to identify the best
candidates for those positions.

A qualified student applicant will have a solid interest in science and technology related areas. He or
she will be interested in all aspects of robotic creation including design, construction, testing and
competition. The applicant must maintain a C or better in each class in order to support their ability
to participate in extracurricular activities. He or she will need at least one reference from a school
faculty or administration member from their home school. Each non-SSA student will be required to
provide a release of information so progress can monitored.

The student must submit a 200-word essay highlighting their interests and reasons for wanting to
be a member of SSA Team CRUSH. If chosen, the student will be required to attend an interview
with SSA Team CRUSH student and adult members. Finally, if selected for a position on the team,
he or she will sign a contract with the team acknowledging their responsibilities and willingness to
be a productive team member.

The team participation fee is $250.00 per family and $200.00 for single parent families per year. The
fee qualifies for Arizona State tax credit, so in most cases has no net cost to the family. Fee
waivers and scholarships are available based on need. All requests are confidential and can be made
to Bill Bennett at the student interview.

If you have any questions about this process, please contact Bill Bennett, Team Manager, by email
to manager@crush1011.org or Michelle Lintner, Student Team Recruiter, at
memberinfo@crush1011.org. We hope to hear from you!
