Subject: High School Robotics

For the Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology
Sonoran Science Academy First Annual Robolympics

CRUSH 1011 is a high School Robotics club here in Tucson, Arizona. CRUSH is committed to promote
science, math and technology as fun and worthwhile endeavor for students, teachers and schools in the
greater Tucson area.
As a result of this commitment, Sonoran Science Academy and CRUSH 1011 is sponsoring a special
Robolympics and Arizona FIRST Workshop for anyone interested in attending. It will offer information
about FIRST, guidance and information about how to start a new club and lots of high-tech fun, but
Sonoran Science Academy and Team CRUSH 1011 needs help getting this message out! The event is
September 17, 2005 and begins at 10:00am. For complete information, please visit
www.crush1011.com/robolympics.html .
SSA and CRUSH 1011 believes that this program is a worthwhile endeavor and that this event will
showcase what is possible when the community, high-tech industry, schools, talented teachers, highly
motivated students and dedicated parents come together and create a program for high school
students.
There is so much information and statistics that prove that this type of opportunity is great for
students, and it is all available at www.usfirst.org but the best way to illustrate its success is to show
the community the students. They are the best example of what can be accomplished and underscores
the program's value.
It is in that spirit that we invite you to come out and visit us. We can give you access to the school,
parents, students, teachers, mentors, school administrators and of course the robots! We would love to
provide you with all of the ingredients to create a great newsworthy story about our program while
educating the community and promoting the opportunity to start more of these teams/clubs/programs
here in Tucson! Presently, we are the only competitive high school robotics team in Tucson. We want
to change that!
In Arizona presently there are about 20 teams. Phoenix metro area has the lion's share by far with
more than 10. Tucson the second largest metropolitan area in Tucson has one. Finding and facilitating
the formation of new teams in this area is absolutely necessary. We owe it to the community and our
students to offer this opportunity, which at this time also includes the ability to request sizeable grants
to help get new teams started. Plus, FIRST gives out 8 million dollars in scholarships each year! What
a resource! Students that participate in this program are more likely to graduate from high school,
continue on to post-secondary training and education. Students involved in robotics teams are our
engineers, scientist, inventors and creative thinkers of tomorrow!
